Cascade Canyon Winter Train This unforgettable excursion whisks passengers to and from Cascade Canyon offering magnificent views of the Animas River and the surrounding snowclad peaks. Departing from the Durango Depot, this trip takes you up into the Rocky Mountains with views of the San Juan National Forest as you travel alongside the beautiful Animas River while relaxing in heated coaches. From the online seating chart I thought I was booking something at the back of the train. It turn out my car was much closer to the front.

The Durango Depot has a parking lot located a short walk from the station, the exact address will be included in your booking confirmation. A parking attendant will provide a pass upon your arrival. Plan to arrive about 1 hour before your train departs. Boarding starts 30 minutes prior to departure time. There are restrooms and a gift shop in the small train station. Outside food and non-alcoholic drinks are allowed on the train. There is a concession car if you need anything extra.

I recommend comfortable clothing and close-toe shoes. If riding in summer you will likely experience hot weather but afternoon storms are common, bring a jacket just in case. The cabins are heated, excluding the open air gondola. The train has many restrooms. There is a concessions car with snacks, warm food, water, juice, soda, coffee, and alcoholic beverages. The motion of the train may may give some the sensation of car sickness or sea sickness.

Highly recommended to…. Our tour guide on the bus ride from Durango to Silverton and our Silverton jeeping tour was very knowledgeable and kept everything interesting! Had a great time!! Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the area and history and stopped at all the appropriate points of interest to take pictures and experience the gorgeous scenery.

Our guides, Don and Kyle, were awesome. However, our trip seemed a bit unorganized. These trains include a concession car with a variety of snacks and drinks available for purchase. The deluxe motor coach departs Durango at am and arrives at Silverton at am.

It then departs from Silverton at pm and arrives in Durango at pm. The bus service is available 7 days a week through October 31st. With one way ticket purchase, the passenger is responsible for transportation and is not included with one way fare.
